Create Ghost Trails for Animation in Fusion

Chetal Gazdar Shows How to Create Ghost Trails for Animated 3D Objects Using BMD Fusion.

Trying for a strobe photography effect, or trying to get a look of ghost trails? With Black Magic Design Fusion, the process isn’t too complicated. You can create a ghost trails effect on animated 3D objects using the Replicate 3D node. VFX Artist Chetal Gazdar walks us through the process using a dancing figure that was brought over from Autodesk Maya as an Alembic file. If you don’t know how to create an Alembic Cache from Maya, Chetal covers that too.

The techniques are not only useful for the trails effect, but you can also use it for other instances, specifically particle instances. Using the same tip, you can create solid objects such as a tree and branch growing effect. Such excellent results from a versatile node in Fusion.
