Shader Basics With MaterialX and Karma XPU

This new tutorial series from Rohan Dalvi dives into some of the more unique features in Houdini, some still in Alpha. Rohan shows how to get started building MaterialX shaders for Karma XPU.

Kind of new to Houdini is LOPs (Solaris-based), or lighting operators, a way you can create scene layout and lighting and materials, allowing you to export the file as USD. 

Karma recently expanded to Karma XPU, which uses all your computer’s processors, including CPU and GPU.

Along with MaterialX, we now can export a universal scene with materials into any supporting application.

Karma XPU is exclusively built around USD and MaterialX, abandoning the old VEX-based shader system.
