Substance 3D Painter gets an overhaul to the baking tools, including a way to visualize bakes.
Substance 3D Painter relies heavily on baking, but the toolset was somewhat limiting compared to other solutions like Marmoset Toolbag. Thanks to a revamp of the baking experience in Substance 3D painter 8.3, it’s now possible to visualize and troubleshoot bakes before they happen.
3D Painter offers a new workspace for performing bakes launched by a new baking button. The Baking Visualization section lets you see your high-res and low-res meshes and gives color overlays for matching errors and UV seams. A welcome addition.
The baking process no longer locks up the UI and screen; you can tumble the model as the bake happens.
