Matt Fournier shows how to use point instancing to render out crowd simulations in Houdini in this part one of two tutorial for creating crowd simulations in Houdini.

Matt writes on his tutorial: “This is a basic crown simulation for Houdini using motion capture animation. I show you how to use point instancing to render out your crowd sim in record speeds. The focus of this tutorial is on rendering techniques for large crowd simulation, the 2nd part will focus more on the behavior of your simulation. I will show you how to render large crowds in full HD in under 30sec / frame for several hundred characters.”
