Creating and Simulating Balloons in Softimage ICE

Alan Fregtman begins an in depth series looking into simulating a group or party balloons in Softimage ICE, with the first look offering a focus on emission and behavior.

In this tutorial Alan begins to explain the highly anticipated icy mathemagic behind the “ICE balloons” simulation teased a few weeks back

Alan notes that there is a bit of vector math to set this one up. Here, Alan shows how to predict where a particle will be on the next frame, modify that particles prediction by recomputing its pointVelocity, and shows how to create your own distance constraint so the balloon doesn’t fly off.
