Create a Simple Texture Path Tool Using Python in Maya

By August 25, 2015No Comments

Character Artist Isaac Oster offers a short tutorial on how to harness a bit of Python in Maya to create a really simple texture re-path tool. The tutorial is meant as an introduction to artists who are interested in learning Python in Maya and want to become more familiar with Python scripting for short tasks.

Here Isaac shows how to use listAttr(), getAttr(), and setAttr() to build a simple texture path tool that will let you reassign texture paths in a project.

This is a little taste from a course that he offers. If you want to quickly get started learning a bit of Python in Maya to help your workflow, Isaac has “Introduction to Python Scripting in Maya” for $1 on his gum road page. The tutorials there introduce basic python functionality in the Maya environment. For artists comfortable with visual thinking, Maya’s 3D environment is a great space to learn to script.
