Junichiro Horikawa How to Create an Animated Weaving Effect Based on Parametric Objects in Side FX Houdini.

There is nothing quite as mesmerizing as an animated weaving effect. What better way to create one than with the procedural powerhouse that is Houdini. Junichiro Horikawa shows how you can create a weave from objects, one that is both procedural and parametric. In fact, you can control the base shape of the object parametrically as well.

Houdini is great for building this kind of thing. Also available is VFX Homeland’s Knit Solver for Houdini. The Knit Solver can wrap any object in knitted fabric, and lets you animate the parameters.

On an entirely another level, the paper showing some new methods for Real-time fiber-level cloth rendering, authored by Kui Wu and Cem Yuksel is utterly real-time-sublime.
