Wes McDermott was working on painting a dirt layer on a lightmap that was generated with Beast in Unity 3.0 and thought he would share the process. Wes goes on to say, “This video is a bit cryptic with no audio, but it shows the workflow of using Mudbox to paint a dirt layer on the lightmap. The dirt layer is then composited over the lightmap using Photoshop, tweaked and saved back to Unity.
In my book, “Creating 3D Game Art for the iPhone with Unity,” I detail this process using Photoshop. In this video, I use Mudbox as I really like the painting toolset and use Mud often for various painting tasks.”
