Danny Perry shows how to create a variable width stroke type reveal animation in After Effects that use the Echo effect.

Sooner or later, you will need to create a type reveal animation. In After Effects, there are many ways to approach this, but if you need to create one on typography that has variable width strokes, here is a pretty quick way. Motion Designer and tools creator Danny Perry shows how to use After Effects’ Echo effect to facilitate the write-on effect for variable width type.

It’s a bit of a workaround and while the echo effect will inevitably slow down computers to a crawl, this technique proves to be an effective one. Perry and his pluginPlay tools for After Effects include Datamosh, Lazy 2, and Copy Pasta.
