The Pixar GPU team presented at the Autodesk Developers Network Conference on November 2012, showing off OpenSubdiv open source library from Pixar which will allow developers some consistency in adding and developing subdivision technologies into products, tool, and pipelines. OpenSubdiv was first announced at the Siggraph 2012 conference, and from that initial look, OpenSubdiv showed to be incredibly fast.

In watching the presentation on the new open source Subdivision technology from Pixar, the video began with a general interest and then ended with picking my jaw up off the floor, so my advice is to watch the video, and stick with it for the payoff.
