Sergej Zlahtic walks us through creating the V-Ray rendering for his realistic looking RC Heli model using Maya and V-Ray pulling apart the scene a bit showing as a bit of a guide to how the lighting, and shaders were created.

In this tutorial Sergej talks about his personal project “Helicopter Model”, selected for the Autodesk “Fake or Foto” challenge. Sergej discusses the V-Ray shading, lighting and rendering techniques he used to achieve great photo realistic results

I love walkthroughs like this, especially when they are about V-Ray, as it really shows how simple everything can be with a scene set up, simple lighting, simple shaders, and a few tweaks to the rendering engine, which really speaks to to the team at The Chaos Group, and how much thought went into something like V-Ray to streamline the shading and rendering process to a well thought out product.

Sergej Zlahtic RC Heli was used in Autodesk’s “fake or Photo” test, which you can check out here, knowing at least one of the answers already… Spoiler alert?
