Daniel Brodesky shows how you can easily create an interesting effect that will reveal type or transition text in Ae. Here, Daniel uses footage of a fireball to reveal type on the screen.
By using the footage as a matte, you can easily control the transparency of the layer that will reveal type. Adjusting the contrast between light and dark will allow you to easily alter the strength of the matte.
Adding a displacement effect to the the type can add a heat distortion effect for final output, again using the footage as a base.Director of
