Springs can be a bit tricky to animate. Depending on what the animation will entail, you may need to compress and stretch the spring accurately and the rig needs at the very least, to accommodate those motions. What if you wanted the spring to react with automatic follow-through and drag as well?

Here, FX Artist and Mographer ?smail Bayrak shares a little screen recording for creating a spring constraint system in Cinema 4D. The video walks through creating the spring, and also setting up the spring constraint and adding the dynamics to the spring for some automatic reactions to motion.

A while back, Ratemyfuneral’s Rory Martin also showed how to create a dynamic spring in Cinema 4D that will render and work with the dynamics system. There was also another look at Creating Springs in Cinema 4D with Spline Dynamics.
