behind the tweak facial rig, in maya

Kevin Hoffman shares some insight into his pet project – what he calls “the tweak rig” as a facial setup. This is actually quite interesting where Kevin uses the original “rough” face rig that was used to create the initial blend shapes to then help modify the Osipa style face rig as additional controls – effectively altering the blend shapes or allowing you to “tweak” the blend shapes as part of the rig. How cool is that? Pretty, I would say.

The Tweak Rig is Kevin Hoffman’s ongoing experiment in 3D facial rigging. By combining blendshape and bone-based methodologies, he aims to create an efficient tool for riggers and animators alike. This video is not a tutorial, but a general overview of my workflow with a few examples of projects in which the Tweak Rig was used. Completed in Autodesk Maya.
