RUINS is a dynamics driven shatter plugin for Maya which supports NVIDIA PhysX and CUDA acceleration technology. It also provides external force field to drive the rigid body. With this tutorial you will see how to use “RUINS” to shatter a polygon model in Autodesk Maya.
RUINS looks like a great little package, however it has a strange pricing structure. Seems that version 1.0 of the plugin is $66.00, version 2.0 is $135.00, and version 3.1 is $295.00. As far as I can tell, versions 1 and 2 are not tiered versions, these are legacy versions with legacy bugs, legacy usability, and legacy abilities… which to me is strange. Why would you purchase version 1 if version 2 is stated to have fixed memory problems, shouldn’t there be some support on version 1.0 to that extent? Strange.
