An overview of the process and workflow to i-Ray rendering in 3DS Max by deprocess.org showing of the Mental Ray realtime non biased render engine in scene set up, photometric lights, material settings max scripts and render settings. Good stuff!

iray rendering from deprocess.org on Vimeo.

This tutorial shows how to create quick renderings in 3D Studio Max using the newer non biased Autodesk render engine iray. Iray uses many settings, materials, and concepts as Mental Ray, however, because of its unbiased abilities it make iray a much more friendly render engine to use. We will walk through how to set up an iray scene with photometric mental ray lights, material settings, max scrips, and render settings.

  1. Hi. First of all thank you for publishing this tutorial. We also consider iray as a render engine with a high potential but with one slight disadvantage. The rendering time. That is why we decided to work on an integrated workflow between 3ds max + iray with rendering on GPU. The service is on free public beta, so you could test it for free. We would like to get feedback from more users, that is why we want to invite all of you to visit http://www.renderflow.com and test our service. Thank you.
