Animography, whose name is created by “smooshing” the words Animated Motion Graphics Typography has recently come on the scene in the last few months with… well as you may have surmised by now, animated typefaces that you are able to use in After Effects projects rather easily.
Animography is driven by Calango – an Amsterdam-based motion graphics studio with a goal to provide motion designers animated typefaces that are easy to use, customizable and scaleable without quality loss. Amsterdam-based motion graphics studio Calango
…Our animated typefaces are Adobe After Effects files with each glyph in a separate composition. A controller-composition serves as a central point from which you can customize all the glyphs in one go…
Animography offers some typefaces in two or three variations including a static version of the typeface or an animated version. Some typefaces have free versions available where you can download the animated typeface which will have limited animation controls compared to the paid versions (which is handy for trying some type out to see how they work) and all the typefaces seem to be compatible with After Effects CS3 and greater.
When you purchase a typeface, you will find that all of the animated typefaces basically have the same setup. You receive an After Effects project file for a typeface that you are able to open or import into whatever you have cooking in After Effects. The Typeface comes with organized folders containing all the characters and punctuation you will need for the animated typeface.
There will also be a separate composition called the “controller comp” where all the customizable features for that specific typeface listed in the After Effects Effects Panel. These features will be different for each typeface as the animation is different for each typeface. The individual features available are all listed on the product page of each typeface.
Animated typefaces range from free to around $60.00 USD for customizable After Effects project files that have unique animation controls for that typeface.
