Ben Benton, after seeing a similar animation while at the cinema, wanted to figure out how to transition an orb made of cubes into an orb of spheres in Cinema 4D, and the result is this tutorial showing just that.

The first part of the tutorial looks at how to put together the cubes in a spherical configuration and creates the morphing effect by using a spherify deformer and cloner object respectively.

Ben continues by creating a bit of randomness in the scene by using the random effector, and also shows how to texture the scene so that the objects have random colors applied.

The second part of the tutorial Ben shows how it is possible to have the dynamics with follow position at the beginning, while having the spheres close and tight together keeping the shape which Ben shows by keying Rigid Body Dynamics.
