Maltaannon walks us through the process of creating a morphing superman logo using Mettle’s ShapeShifter to not only create the 3D shape right in After Effects, but also for creating the morph animation as well.

The plugin I’d like to introduce you to in this tutorial is ShapeShifter by Mettle, and… you’ve guest it… it has it’s limitations as well, however it suits my needs 90% of the time

As Jerzy Drozda Jr notes in his post for Creating Morphing 3D Shapes in After Effects, there are plenty of solutions these days for creating 3D in After Effects, as well as some solutions which do not even allow you to create 3D objects, such as VC Element. Jerzy briefly discusses the pros and cons of 3D Plugins and not surprisingly, lists Mettle’s ShapeShifter pretty highly as being his go-to 3D Solution for creating 3D in After Effects.

Mettle are sponsoring Superman 3D Logo Design Challenge which is going on until November 10th. The challenge is for you to take the well-known Superman logo and manipulate, recreated, tweak and design an incredible 3d result. There are some project files to help you get started. You can also download a fully functional trial version of ShapeShifter AE here.
