Javis Jones wrote a little script for modo which will allow you to use the Maya “D” and “V” hotkeys for moving the pivot or counterpoint of an object and snapping to vertex or vertices respectively. Often times the daunting task of learning another software package will become a little less with some more familiar and trusted workflows.

a tiny little script to help simulate the D and V hotkeys in Maya, for Modo

Javis notes that coming from MAya to modo, there is no default tool for moving the action center, or snapping to point or vertex. Javis also shows how to install the script for modo, and how to assign a hotkey to the actions. Check out the script SnapOn2Verts for modo here.
