Mettle has been providing some advanced previews into what is on-slate for FreeForm Pro v1.5, showing off features such as the ability to add, manage and render fog and mist effects and displacements. Here, Klaus Brandenburg takes a look at using some of these new features FreeForm Pro in an After Effects scene.

Klaus Brandenburg, editor & vfx artist from Munich, Germany, was kind enough to put this tutorial together to showcase some of the new features in FreeForm Pro V1.5

Klaus uses a scene containing a terrain that is completely created uses FreeForm, using displacements to build the terrain, and then applies some effects such as fog and mist to add atmospheric effects, all right inside of After Effects.

Klaus notes an error in the video “I should have set the displacements layer channel to red instead of RGB in order not to mess up the displacements overall look. Also I could have used another color channel for the reflectivity (green) by creating a copy of the lake mask in the displacement map, tint it green and set the transfer mode to add.” Check out the tutorial for creating a 3D Terrain in After Effects using FreeFrom Pro Fog and Mist here.
