Simulating Sand and Collapsing a Sand Castle with Naiad

By September 26, 2013No Comments

TD/VFX artist Matt Chandler demonstrates how to create a sand simulation in Naiad creating an animation of a form made of sand collapsing, with some pretty great results.

posted some Naiad R&D for a sort-of sand setup behavior recently and thought I would follow up with an overview/tutorial of how I created it within Naiad

Matt walks through creating the sand simulation, using a pre-fractured model from 3ds Max, using the fragments to define the pieces of sand that have not collapsed yet. Matt also takes a look at creating and combining channels in Naiad, and generating a workable UV for the model and simulation as well as an interesting solution to increase the resolution of the simulation without too much cost.
