Have After Effects Shape Layers Melt Into Each Other

Mt. Mograph shows how to use After Effects shape layers to create an animation that has the shape layers look like they fuse into one another. If you have seen the effects of “metaballs” in 3d, it is a similar effect in 2d, where the shapes look like they will bleed into each other with a bit of surface tension.

today’s video is all about a crazy awesome Shape Layer Fusion effect using some super sneaky and awesome tools and effects in After EffectsMt. Mograph

Matt uses an unlikely effect in the After Effects arsenal to create the look of the shape layers merging into each other, which is rather clever. Using the Simple Choker effect, typically used for treating mattes in After Effects, will give the shape layers the look that they are seeping into each other.

Mt. Mograph has a youtube channel with a large range (28 or so) of motion graphics tutorials that span from introductions to more intermediate topics, all of them however look great -Check out Mt. Mograph here.

nice. we used to use an adjustment layer with fast blur to blur and then a levels to choke it. but this works too. that was of course like 10 years ago and i’m old. so…yeh.
