Ever wanted to animate ASCII art in After Effects? How would you go about that, easily without a plugin?

A new plugin offering LetterMapper, (or L4tt3rM4pp3r as it is written) can easily create textmode or ASCII art in After Effects from video clips.  LetterMapper is a simple GPU accelerated tool for After Effects that will allow you to display video frames in Ae as a set of text symbols.

L4tt3rM4pp3r is an After Effects plugin allowing you to display video frames as textmode art

You can use any set of symbols to create your own textmode styles, from the classic ASCII art look with the CGA BIOS typeface, or any other symbol, by building your own resource for LetterMapper to draw on.

LetterMapper uses a symbol texture to draw its symbols from, so you can easily create your own styles by putting them together in a new texture. LetterMapper also comes with two scripts for Photoshop that will assist you in creating the symbol maps that LetterMapper uses.
