Animating Torn Paper in After Effects

A paper tear animation can be a great visual in itself or as a reveal, and here Kevin Snyder shows how you can create a torn paper in After Effects using some scripts and expressions. The neat thing is that the paper gets curled as it is being torn, giving you a more 3D look to the animation in the end.

As the paper tears, it will curl up in 3D space giving it a great effect

The Torn Paper tutorial makes use of photoshop and after effects, and uses some scripts to assist the workflow, including Harry Frank’s bounce Preset, rd_Slicer script, the Layer Chain Script, and lastly, the Move Anchor Point script.

You can also download and use the assets used, so be sure to check out the tutorial for creating a torn paper animation in After Effects here.
