Tracking a turning head in Ae can be challenging, but Mikey Borup posts a clever little trick on how to easily track a turning head in After Effects. This doesn’t use the standard 2D tracker, but instead Mikey opts to use the 3D Camera Tracker in After Effects. This allows you to get an almost “simulated” 3D track of the turning head.

By close cropping the action that you want to track, the 3D Camera Tracker in After Effects can make short work of the job at hand. Mikey also shows how to use the resulting track to place a mustache stick in place.
