Setting up the Box Slider Asset to Control Modo Facial Rig

Mike Gambardella shows how to set up a Modo facial rig. The set up will make use of Modo’s morph targets and morph maps and can be driven from the on screen UI control.

The slider controls will be offered by the Box Slider Rig asset.

This type of control system is great for facial rigging. It offers an in-context view of all the controls needed for animation on-screen and right along side the thing that you are animating – the face. Popularized by Jason Osipa in his book “Stop Staring”, the slider controls for facial rigs have been a mainstay in character rigging ever since.

Creating a Modo facial rig can use similar concepts as other applications, but offers further in refining the process by using maps to control morph targets or blend shapes.

The Box Slider Rig Asset offers an on-screen GUI for scrubbing values in 2 dimensions. To use, drag into your Workspace and link the X_Percent & Z_Percent outputs to whatever you want. The Box Slider Rig asset can be downloaded here: Box Slider Rig Asset for Modo.
