Shortly after its purchase of Eyeon Fusion, BlackMagic Design is boldly offering a free version of Fusion 7. The Free version has most all the features that the paid version has, other than limiting rendering to single machine (no network rendering), a size limit of UHD, and some higher end tools such as stereoscopic effects and workflows.
Fusion is no joke. It is a completely capable node based compositor, known for being very fast and flexible both in 2D and true 3D space. Speaking of speed, one of the other things that is not available on the free version is the ability to have render and interactive performance scalable with remote nodes.
Fusion 7, as with all the previous version of Fusion, is sadly windows only. It is not available on multiple platforms. However, if you are on a mac, Fusion does run under virtualization pretty well. Check the Fusion 7 details over at BlackMagic Design here.
