A new script from Martin Dahlin will allow you to quickly extrude or connect a polygon edge selection to a curve in Maya. NightShade Connect is great for high polygon modeling, letting you create a bridge between two odd shapes.
[pullquote]Nightshade Connect is a Maya tool for quickly extruding/connecting an edge selection to a curve[/pullquote]With NightShade Connect, you can create a bridge between a square and a circle for example. Simply select a polygon edge and a target curve, and hit connect. NightShade Connect will build the faces, bridging the gap between the edge and the curve.
This can be a huge time saver for hard surface modeling. Rather than selecting and manipulating edges to the shape you ultimately want, you can simply use a curve to describe that shape first.
NightShade Connect is a commercial tool, carrying the price of $20.00 running both on Mac and Windows platforms, for Maya versions 2012 to 2015. Check out the NightShade Connect tool page for more information.
