Link Tool for Ae Offers a Simple & Powerful Way to Control Multiple Layer Properties

Mt. Mograph’s Matt Jylkka has released another animation tool for After Effects which looks like an interesting take on controlling animation properties for multiple layers.

Link allows you to “link” an endless number of properties to a single set of keyframes

“Link” allows you to quickly link layer properties on any number of layers in Ae with a click of a button. Even though making connections to properties is as easy as a pick whip in Ae, connecting more than one layer’s properties can begin to be a chore.

This is one area where Matt’s script can help out. By selecting layers, you can define what will be the master layer and which will be slaves. Then it is simply a matter of setting which properties you want to link, using Link’s panel buttons, then create the link.

The tool will then make the connections, and place some controls in the effects controls window. This is where the real power of link comes forward. You now have the opportunity to adjust how you want the slave layers to behave to the animation keyframes. You can set delays, cycles, and offsets for the slave layers.

the script works on relative connections. This means that you can change your temporal data such as timing and delay, and spacial information such as position and rotation without breaking anything.

In fact, you can still add animation or keyframes to the linked layers.

Link for Ae Availability and Pricing

Link is available through Mt. Mograph, for $30.00. Link V1 has been tested in After Effects CS5 – CC (2014) and works on all systems. Older versions are not recommended – but may support Link.
