Forging the Rings of Saturn With After Effects

Tutorial Author Caleb Ward has been on a bit of a space imagery run. From showing how to create nebula scenes, to galaxy animations, and his new one, shows how you can create Saturn’s rings using only the tools that are available within After Effects.

Caleb uses a lot of the techniques used in previous space scenes to create the stars and the dust-cloud filled backgrounds. Saturn and the rings rely on shape layers, the polar coordinates effect and the rarely used dither effect. Setting up a some layers as 3D layers allows the camera to move slighting in the scene for the animation.
