Generators and splines in Cinema 4D are useful tools for modeling, but some caveats come with that workflow. In his first ever tutorial, 3D Artist Glen Johnson gives a rundown of a standard modeling problem and a solution for that problem.
Johnson shows how generators and splines are often guilty for giving users hard edges instead of softer ones. To remedy this Johnson uses a technique that he calls “containment modeling.” Johnson describes this technique as essentially creating geometry to work in, rather than one to work “on.” “In later videos, I will go into what that means for polygon modeling. And as a bit of bonus at the end a few spline subdivisions for scene optimization.” Johnson mentions.
