The latest version of Mari added a new feature that is a “transformative change” to the look-dev process. The new Material System in Mari lets you rough in shader setups bringing in the Arnold standard surface shader. “The new system in Mari 4.5 was just released and with it comes faster workflows in automation when it comes to texturing hero assets in Visual Effects,” Aversten says. “The first episode is about examining the material in Maya and transferring them to Mari and applying them to the different parts.” Aversten also gives his first impression on the feature below.
