Ben Marriott shows a fast way to create animated grain using roughen edges in After Effects.
There are probably a ton of ways to create animated grain and textures in After Effects. There are even some great asset libraries to help you get that look quickly. One custom method uses a mask, matte and the roughen edges effect in After Effects. Check out this tutorial from Ben Marriott, who shows how to use Roughen Edges and also explain why it’s so effective.
Marriott used another method before getting turned on to this one, explaining that “This is the 2.0 version of my first tutorial on this channel,” Marriott says. “This new method is better and faster and more versatile in most situations.”
