David Kahl VFX shows how you can import JSON data in Houdini and use it to manipulate geometry.

There are a few scripting languages and some just for the exchange of data. JSON is a standard data format for JavaScript Notation that you can use for the transfer of data. Plenty of apps allow you to import, export, and work with JSON data one way or another. For those that work with Houdini, check out this tutorial from David Kahl that shows how you can import JSON data in Houdini and use it to manipulate objects in your scene.

Kahl starts the tutorial by describing what JSON is and how the format looks. The tutorial provides a simple example of importing a JSON file into Houdini and using it for things in your scene. Kahl has a more detailed look into working with JavaScript notation, where he takes a look at a more complex JSON file to extract its data and do fun stuff with it.
