How to Make an Attribute Grow Over a Surface in Houdini

Voxyde covers two ways to make an attribute grow in Side FX Houdini.

This new tutorial from Voxyde (Ciobanu Razvan) covers some methods for making attribute growth in Houdini. One pretty popular technique is to use a Solver.

The other method uses a pre-defined attribute offset in VOPs or VEX. Razvan recommends the second as it’s faster and offers real-time feedback without relying on a simulation.

Recently, the pyro tools in Houdini had a bit of a refresh, which means that you can also use the Pyro Source Spread SOP to create an animated growth effect.
