Farley Chery needs your help! Farley has created through some research and testing a method for developing what he calls an “Enhanced IK” in Maya and he is curious if there would be a demand for such a thing from the community. Check out the videos below for the Enhanced IK Rig describing the characteristics of Motionflow rigging using enhanced IK in Maya which Farley Chery hopes that it will eliminate the need for animators to do additional tasks that naturally occur in anatomical motion.
We would love to hear your comments and feedback!
When I asked Farley to outline the differences in his Enhanced IK rig versus a HumanIK solution he said this:
“Overall the difference between Enhanced Ik and HumanIK is that Enhanced IK is one of many new techniques that can be used to solve tough problems in rigging, while HumanIK is a prebuilt rig.
Enhanced IK is just part of a system to create fluid movement, because it’s design to work with other rigging systems it is dynamic, expandable, can be used in cartoony setups and be retrofitted into existing rigs. HumanIk does not pack much of a punch with squash and stretch, recently it has improved to allow for more control with on and off switches of individual attributes.
Enhanced IK also can to be turned on and off but a key feature is that it allows the animators to animate over it’s motions, so everything stays in the animators control. The interface is based on control curves giving it more familiarity than HumanIK. Enhanced IK techniques can expand upon, using it to build or modify other rigs while HumanIK is limited to either whatever comes out of the box or re-programming at the API.
Enhanced IK can be retrofitted into an existing rig or have features added such as the new no pop knee, recently added or the Translative FK system (which is pretty cool by itself). Enhanced IK can have its outputs changed by animators to suit them shot by shot and character by character and also fit into existing rigs to make them more functional.”
This seems an amazing rig! I would like to try it out. Where can I get it?
Farley wants to make one for public use if there is enough interest, maybe tweet about it and spread the word!
