Lee Daniels (LeeDanielsART) posts a useful quick tip for rigging things like bike pedals, level platforms, and the wheels of a train.

Using simple expressions in After Effects, Lee shows how you can remove the inherited rotation from a parented object, while keeping the parenting in place.

In his example, the bike pedal shaft will rotate, and as a child of that parent, the pedal will as well. With an added expression however, you can keep the pedal following the rotation of the main shaft, but keep it’s orientation level at while doing so. A great tip.
