Steve Sprinkles (from PixelBump) posts a look into using Cinema 4D’s Cloth dynamics for creating destruction in a car model.

a look at the cloth engine and how to use it to create bendable metal and simulate real world destruction

Often times it is forgotten that Cloth Dynamics can be used for more than just cloth simulations.

Cloth Dynamics can be used for any type of soft bodied simulation. This means that anything that bends, deforms shape, breaks apart, stretches, or shatters can make use of the tools that cloth dynamics provides.

Here, Steven shows how to put together the entire shot of a car being destroyed, walking through the C4D Cloth Dynamics engine, and some compositing instruction in After Effects.

The project files are included and can be found on PixelBump’s post for Car Crushing With Cloth Dynamics here.
