A Look at Ornatrix for Maya Hair Meshing Feature

Ephere Inc, the makers of the complete hair, fur and feather system for 3D Max have been porting the plugin over to Autodesk Maya. Here, the Cofounder and CEO of Ornatrix , Marsel Khadiyev, shows off one of the features for the popular hair and fur system, in Maya.

One of the many useful parts of Ornatrix is the ability to mesh hair or guides.

One of the features of Ornatrix is its ability to mesh both hair and guides. Here, Marsel shows how easy it is to create meshed geometry from hair and guides.

Also shown over the course of the demonstration is how Ornatrix can be used to grow any type of objects, besides hair or fur. Ornatrix allows you to quickly change parameters such as strand twisting. You can even turn the mesh back into guides if you like. It is a completely asynchronous process.

There are plenty of hair and fur solutions for Autodesk Maya at the moment, including Maya’s native XGen, and legacy fur rendering tools. Add to the list Peregrine Labs’ Yeti, a nodal approach to creating hair and fur in Maya, Shave and a Haircut, and GroomBoy, and you soon realize that there is no shortage of tools.

Ornatrix will bring a 3ds Max style operator stack to creating hair and fur, allowing for an interesting take on a parametric workflow to creating hair and fur.

Ephere’s Ornatrix is currently being beta tested for Autodesk Maya. You can apply to the beta test program here.
