Cody Winchester Breaks Down His Technique for Creating Anime Style FX in Blender.

Looking to create those 2D anime style FX that have realistic details while still sporting that cel animation look? Yeah, you can use Blender for that. Blender Artist Cody Winchester breaks down how he creates anime style FX in Blender which he notes is mostly a modifier-based workflow.

Cody starts by using displacement modifiers to create the primary form of the explosion. Layering displacements allow for more interest. A mask modifier lets you create the elements of the explosion by using the group remove threshold to make parts of the model disappear.

Winchester posts the companion files to the tutorial which are available to download for a small fee here.
