Delano Athias shows how to pin the ends of a dynamic curve in Blender.

One great way to create animation on cables, ropes, and other things is to make them dynamic. As with all dynamic elements, constraints and controls become an essential method to create animation. Here, Animator Delano Athias shows how to pin a dynamic curve in Blender.

Check out this tutorial from Delano Athias that shows the process. In Blender (as with other apps), curve dynamics are a soft-body domain. It’s relevant to use constraints to effectively pin the ends of the rope or cable that you are controlling. Blender’s Hook Modifier is an easy way to attach an Empty to the end of a curve.
