MainFrame’s MASH has made great headway into getting a simple to use and powerful procedural tools for Maya. If you have a Maya user and ever looked longingly at Cinema 4D’s MoGraph module and its capabilities, MASH is definitely for you.

We’ve been hard at work here at Mainframe developing some great new features into MASH 3.0

What’s New in MASH 3

MainFrame has pushed out MASH 3 for Maya which is currently in public beta until May 1, 2014. MASH 3 offers a new Waiter, the centerpiece of MASH, which has been designed for a faster and more intuitive workflow.

Presets

MASH 3 adds a new start window as a visor, which will display MASH presets to get you  started. Starting MASH 3 brings you directly to the Maya Visor, which displays the MASH folder containing MASH presets.

Waiter Interface

The Waiter now sports a button / icon driven interface. Left clicking on a button will show all of the relevant connection attributes for that node. The Waiter also includes a new section for  setting, storing or loading presets.

MASH Outliner

Other interface changes include a new MASH Outliner Window, which is similar to Maya’s default Outliner, but only shows the relevant MASH network nodes. The MASH Outliner window will live update while you are working on your scene.

Viewport Messages

MASH 3 for Maya will now use the Maya viewport messaging system to show tips, hints, warnings and errors directly in the Viewport. This is a nice feature that can guide you through what will be required next in creating your MASH networks.

MASH 3 for Maya Replicator Node

The Replicator Node in MASH has gone through a rewrite and is a new replacement for the older Echo Node in earlier versions of MASH. With the Replicator node you are able to duplicate every channel in your MASH network simultaneously. The new Replicator node is about 5 times faster than the older Echo Node.

MASH 3 Distribute Node and Voxels

The Distribute node has been streamlined in MASH 3 and now offers new Voxel options

MASH 3 Strength Maps

The new Strength Map feature in MASH 3.0 can replace an older feature of the Mute Node in older versions of MASH. Strength maps can control distribution, rotation, position, scale etc., and are now included on many of the nodes.

MASH 3 Blend Node

MASH 3 for Maya has a new multi-threaded Blend Node which will allow you to blend two networks together with plenty of control for how they get blended.
