mHide is a simple script from myara, which works like the hide command does in Softimage.

Hide Objects and faces (through isolation command) a little like Softimage.

One thing that I hear quite often from new users and switchers, is that Maya’s hide is a bit counter intuitive to what they might be used to. Maya’s most immediate approach is to “isolate selected” which might be considered the opposite of the “hiding selected” so many are used to.

Maya also has “Hide Selected” under the display menu, but that only works on an object level. So if you wanted to hide selected faces, you are out of luck, the entire object gets hidden.

Myara’s mHide offers a great way to hide both selected objects and faces, which mimics Softimage’s functionality.

mHide allows you to hide selected objects without deselecting. If nothing in the scene is selected, then the script will unhide the last hidden object.

The script can also hide selected faces in all views, using Maya’s Isolate Command. Again, if nothing is selected, the script unhides all faces.
