Junichiro Horikawa Shows How You Can Create a 3D Fractal-Based Mandelbulb in Houdini Armed With Volumes and a Formula
A Mandelbulb is a 3-dimensional version of a 2D fractal based on the Mandelbrot set and something that you can put together yourself in Side Effects Houdini. Junichiro Horikawa uses some of the formulas that are available within Houdini to shape a volume into a detailed 3D fractal.
The tutorial covers creating parameter controllers for the 3d fractal and walks through adding the formulas to Vex code. “You can also 3d print the final output” Junichiro Horikawa mentions. You can find the formula used with the tutorial on this Wikipedia page. Great stuff!
