Andy Needhan provides a look at how you are able to break apart splines in Cinema 4D that have been imported from Adobe Illustrator as one combined shape by using Cinema 4D’s Explode Segments command.

Typically importing Illustrator line art in most 3D applications has the same result – the artwork comes in as one shape, and it is not uncommon that if you want to use it for multiple extrudes or modeling on individual components, that you need to break it apart into separate shapes. As Andy shows in this quick tip, this is easily done in Cinema 4D.
