The Foundry has released MARI 1.5, the company’s 3D Texture Painting Tool able to blow-through super high resolution textures and and millions of polygons as if they were nothing. One of the key features of the latest release of MARI is better support for Maya adding the ability to export patch based textures back and forth seamlessly.

…MARI 1.5 brings a host of feature additions and improvements all designed to take the pain out of the artistic process, letting you spend more time painting…

MARI 1.5 hosts new support for overlapping UVs allowing the same texture to be used again in 3D models that have shared UV space that should speed up some workflows considerably.

Along side the new overlapping UVs feature, is that fact that MARI can now use the saved Photoshop Brush format .ABR allowing you to use the same Photoshop brush libraries you have in MARI.

Other Mari 1.5 feature highlights include

  • Shadow support – Real-time shadows for maximum effect
  • DDS Cubemap support – Work in context to ensure accurate results
  • Mirroring in the paint buffer – Paint symmetrical objects with speed and control
  • Normal mapping functionality – Paint normal maps on the fly, live from bump maps

The Foundry has put together a little video briefly showing the overlapping UVs, shadow support, new Photoshop ABR brush import and more.
