Motion Designer Uwe Schweer-Lambers otherwise known as Equiloud, provides a breakdown for a recent animation he developed using Cinema 4D’s Collision Deformer in conjunction with C4D’s Dynamics system.

The Collision Deformer gives the smaller spheres in the animation which attract and push into the surface of a larger sphere giving the impression of a SoftBody or cloth simulation.

The Collision-Deformer is a very useful tool. Whenever you have to manage cloth-like animation, you should explore it first before going nuts with softbodies or cloth-tags

Uwe Schweer-Lambers shows the basic use of the Cinema 4D Collision Deformer, and then shows how he has applied it to his spheres animation. Within the project the Cinema 4D Jiggle Deformer, Rigid Bodies and a MoDynamics Attractor Objects were also used.

Equiloud notes that the Collision Deformer in Cinema 4D is really something that should be explored first when you are trying to create some cloth like effects, rather than finding other solutions with Cloth Tags or Soft Bodies in Cinema.
