You may remember Riccardo Minervino form a while ago, creating the hyper-real images of Breaking Bad’s Walter White that went viral this past summer. Riccardo dropped me a note to tell me he had created a quick tutorial showing how to get transmission maps out of Autodesk Maya using V-Ray.

A lot of people uses Knald to generate Transmission maps for their models, but maybe a lot of them don’t know that is possible to do the same in Maya and V-Ray

Riccardo notes that plenty of people use an application like Knald to create transmission maps perhaps out of simple convenience, or perhaps unknowing that you are able to create transmission maps from Maya using V-Ray. Simply by reversing the model’s normals, creating a surface shader, adding a V-Ray dirt shader, and baking the scene – within minutes there are transmission maps abound.
