A couple of months ago we were introduced to MochaBlend, an effort from Good Spirit Graphics to provide an integration of Mocha tracking software in Blender. The goal of the MochaBlend project was to be able to use Mocha corner pin, shape and camera solve data right inside of blender.

This short introductory video covers some of the things MochaBlend will let you do with Mocha Translation data, Corner-Pin data, Roto Shapes, and Camera-Solve data inside the vfx software program Blender

MochaBlend Release

MochaBlend has turned out to be a well thought out and planned tool for Blender. MochaBlend works in five modes, each of which are set by the type of data that can be loaded – No data, Transform Data, Corner-pin data, Shape Data, and Camera Solve data. MochaBlend will change its interface and relevant functions based on what type of data is being brought in, giving the interface a streamlined workflow.

Having the ability to use Mocha’s amazing planar tracking system and workflow along side of Blender’s will open up creative possibilities to a lot of artists. Of course you need to have Mocha to get the tracking data to begin with, MochaBlend doesn’t actually do tracking inside of Blender. Having said that, there is a “bundled” version of Mocha – MochaAe that comes with After Effects.

When you purchase MochaBlend, you also receive a MochaBlend Exporter for After Effects as an Ae Plugin. This will allow people who already have After Effects to use Mocha’s planar tracker there, and bring the tracking data into Blender right from After Effects. The plugin can handle animated masks and shapes from After Effects into Blender via MochaBlend.

To find out more about how MochaBlend works, Good Spirit Graphics have posted a tutorial section on their site, offering a look at the workflow for using MochaBlend as well as the export workflow for the Ae Plugin. Check out the MochaBlend Tutorials.
